The End (for now.)
Greetings readers,
I hope that you all are doing well tonight, or today depending on your side of the hemisphere. I apologize for the long radio silence, and the lack of updates. I wanted to make this announcement after I finished Episode 9, but with the way things are currently paced, it could take me a few more months and I don’t think I can wait that long.
After seven years in production, I have decided to stop working on The Shufflers. My heart is no longer fully in it. The series was originally just a bunch of one shot stories, but as it slowly evolved to something more, it lost a lot of it’s footing in terms of writing and direction. But flaws aside, I feel like part of its spirit simply died out. This was probably one of the hardest decisions I had to make, but one that I feel is necessary. I still have a dew pages left to color and draw, but after coming to the realization that I needed to put Shufflers down, it has been relatively difficult to finish any of it. I will still do what I can to conclude Episode 9, as I am not a big fan of cliffhangers. It may take months or a few weeks if I can get myself to draw up the next set of pages, but it is hard to say right now. Once it is complete, there will be no further updates.
For now. Possibly.
I don’t want to believe that this is a permanent end. I’ve seen comics getting picked back up years later so I’d like to believe in that possibility. We shall see.
Despite the sadness of the situation, this webcomic has been blessed with some of the nicest, generous and most supportive of readers. I can’t express how much it meant to me, and my creative contributor, to see your comments and feedback over the years.
I cannot thank you all enough for your support.
That said, I still have a couple years on this domain, so I’ll keep the website up and running for as long as possible. However, I have disabled the shops and the tip jar.
I hope you enjoyed reading this comic as much as I enjoyed drawing it. It’s certainly been an incredible ride and I’ve learned so much.
Farewell, and until we meet again!
– Emily
this comic was great, thanks so much for making it!
there’s no point in making something that’s no longer fulfilling for you. you made a tough call
i hope you can find something else that gives you that spark, regardless of format or availability to others.
happy new year 🙂
(((( HUGS )))) You have my sympathies: such situations are always difficult for creators. 🙁
However, I must say that it is a reflection of your creative skill and work ethic that none of your difficulties showed up in the art or story.
I am sad to see such a different and entertaining comic go, but such is life: a creator can’t beat their head against a brick wall trying to churn out material that is no longer a work of love. Thank you so much for the enjoyment you have given us so far, and best wishes for your future endeavours!
Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year!
Situations and passions change. As a writer myself, I’ve learned that a story can wait patiently for a very long time until I am in the correct space to see it again. You are not abandoning them or us. You’ve given us a beginning. Thank you.
I’m sad to see The Shufflers go, but I’m glad you’re deciding to stop pushing yourself to make something you’re no longer invested in. It’s a great comic, I love the story, art, characters, dialogue, all of it, and I’m very grateful you made it. I’m looking forward to rereading it. I wish you luck in your future endeavours, and hope you find something else you can put your heart into more. Thank you. <3
